Fourth Flight. [video.]
[The feed opens up to the view of a boy. He's a scrawny thing, and is looking pretty lifeless this evening especially. After crumpling up a torn-off piece of paper and tossing it over his shoulder, he goes limp against the desk where he's working, burying his head in his arms.
On the floor, a creature stirs. The blue dinosaur toddles his way on over to the discarded paper, using gleaming claws to carefully pick it apart so as to view it's contents. When Adder sees what it is, his gaze lifts to the boy, then moves back down to the paper before going back again. After a few more seconds, only punctuated by the teen's sigh, the Bagon makes his way over to the other--to his new trainer--and offers up the paper. When he gets Hiccup's attention, he gestures with one stubby arm towards the gear.
Hiccup sighs again, gently taking the paper before patting Adder on the head and walking towards the gear, settling down in front of it.]
I don't know how many knew him, but... Toothless is gone.
[He checks the paper again, smoothing it out even more before showing the drawing. He manages to look even more grim than when this video began.]
This is sort of what he looked like, while he was here. And this is how he looks back home.
...I'm going to miss him.
[Hiccup averts his gaze for a few seconds, instead staring down at his drawings. He would have been content to leave it at that, really, but an insistent noise from one of his other pokemon causes him to look up.]
Oh.
[The boy gets to his feet, moving off-screen, then returns with an egg.]
...I have an egg here, too. I think it's Urd's, since it looks like how she did before she hatched. [He pauses a second.] I think she wants me to find a home for it. So I guess if anyone's interested...
[The viking trails off, giving the gear one last look before reaching over and ending the feed. He's going to take a walk, so it'll be a bit before he replies to anything.]
[ooc: egg is pre-claimed by Rose!]

Are you okay?
video
He's my best friend. ...My only friend, really. [The viking grimaces a bit.] But sure, I'm...okay.
video
You know what helps me, though?
video
Yeah. A lot of people have been leaving, recently.
What?
video
video
[Hiccup is quiet another moment, then clears his throat uncomfortably.]
...How often should I expect to have to write letters in this place? [His lips flatten.] When I first got here, it didn't seem like people left that often. But now I'm not so sure.
He puts on his best, sympathetic smile and turns on the 'gear's camera.]
It's sad to him go. He's gone home, though, kiddo; su~rely that's a good thing?
[And yet he still holds onto that hope that it is. He doesn't know what else to say to people about their friend's disappearing.
It's disheartening really, but he wants to cheer the kids up.]
I...guess. I think so, anyway.
[As long as the others never find out about him...]
He'll be able to fly again, anyway. With the me that's there.
[He speaks softly.
He was never meant to give out advice back in the Otherworld- in fact, he wasn't meant to talk much in case he spilt the beans... but here, he knows what to say in this case- or at least, he can relate.]
Sometimes, we have to make give up things for the people we care for.
[A good father would try and help his kids in their time of need right? It questions for both his own sacrifice and right now.]
Yeah. Yeah, I guess.
...Doesn't make it not hurt, though.
[Her heart pretty much goes out to every single post she's seen go up about a loss. More than ever before, really.]
... Not that I know you, but are you gonna be okay?
I should be, yeah. I think. [He hopes.]
It's rough.
[She's not gonna offer the 'But he might come back!' platitude. She's just about had it with people telling HER that so she's not gonna inflict it on anybody else.]
Did he... leave you any of his Pokemon, at least?
Yeah, he... All of them. [He pauses a second, glancing off to where the pokeballs rest.] He had four, before he left.
It's a little better when there's something to remember them by, I guess.
WOW I AM A DERP, pretend i said three...
[He nods small, lightly trailing fingers across the red-topped surfaces of the spheres, then blinks up to Heather.]
...Two of them have names, but I never heard him call the other one anything.
[Hiccup holds the pokeball for the Tropius in one hand, lightly rolling it around his palm.]
It's stupid, but... I can't for the life of me think of a way to name it after him. Toothless, I mean. [A wry smile curls.] He'd probably get jealous, if I just outright named it 'Toothless'...
no subject
[INTERESTING NAME...]
What kinda Pokemon is it, anyway? Maybe I can help.
[Her father had always let her name the characters in his books when she was little... you know, provided she didn't suggest anything like Batman McPowerRanger or something.]
no subject
He has retractable teeth, and didn't look like he had any at first. So that's what I named him.
[Hiccup pushes the center button on the pokeball at Heather's offer, revealing what should be very a very familiar creature to her by now, what with Henry's newfound obsession. This Tropius seems to be a tiny bit bigger, though, and much more alert.]
I think they're called 'Tropius'.
no subject
[She'd been picturing like... a gummy old man or something.]
[Her expression brightens at the sight of the Pokemon.]
Oh! Oh hey!
My friend has one of those!
[Newfound obsession indeed. Baby Tropiuses (Tropii?) are all the rage.]
no subject
No. He was a dragon called a Night Fury.
[The Tropius tilts its head before craning its neck to sniff curiously at the screen and fogging up the camera a bit. She's getting a good look at you, Heather. Through the...blurred screen.]
Yeah? So what are they like--or, uh, what kind of thing could I name her?
no subject
... Oh. Wow. I don't think I've ever met a dragon.
[She can't help but crack a smile at the screen, though. Those things are just adorable.]
Name? Oh-- ... well, I don't think you wanna employ my friend's naming strategy.
His is called Froot Loops Carmelo Bananasaurus Copter.
... Because its owner is weird.
[And probably high.]
no subject
I guess a lot of people haven't, here. They're all over the place, back home.
[Hiccup only understands...less than half of that name. But he decides not to ask because it's already said to be weird.]
Yeah. I don't think that would really...fit in with the rest of my team. In any way.
no subject
Heh, yeah, where I come from, stuff like that's just storybook stuff.
Always wanted 'em to be real when I was a kid, though.
[And hell, she'd STILL prefer dragons to the otherworldly things she'd wound up encountering...]
But yeah, uh, I wouldn't advise using Henry's naming strategies for anything.
[This was the guy who had a cat named Burger, after all.]
no subject
When I was a kid, I was kind of terrified of them... Dragons and vikings aren't usually on the best of terms.
[He scratches the side of his head, watching as the Tropius starts to lick the screen.]
Guess I'll just have to wait and see what she's like...
no subject
Hey, you must like descriptive names, right?
[What with 'Toothless' and all...]
How about Littlefoot?
[ITT: HEATHER IS A CHILD OF THE NINETIES.]
no subject
Hiccup eyes the Tropius, who cranes her neck to see him instead when she realizes she's being studied.]
Yeah, that...works. [Lightly scritching her neck. Because that's what you do with things that even remotely resemble dragons.] ...Littlefoot, then. Thanks, uh...
[Oh, right.]
What's your name?
no subject
[She beams briefly, because success.]
Me?
Name's Heather.
no subject
[His smile isn't nearly as bright as hers... But considering he is grateful that Littlefoot now has a name, it does make an appearance.]
I'm Hiccup--and I already know it's a terrible name.
no subject
[... And then...]
... Wow.
Yeah, that's--
... Wow.
[WHAT WERE HIS PARENTS THINKING.]
... You must've had a pretty hard time in Viking school, huh.
no subject
At least it's better than Snotlout.
[Or he...hoped...]
As for "viking school", it's really only the same three goons, two okay people, and me. And nowadays, they're just kind of wondering how I'm doing so well instead of being so dead.
no subject
[Because... well yeah. Seriously.]
A five-person school, huh... that's surreal. Where I'm from, schools have like... hundreds of people.
no subject
[Dragon training wasn't even that educational. He couldn't imagine an even bigger class trying to learn.]
no subject
[She'd never been a fan of school, no matter how hard her father had tried to preach the values of education.]
no subject
[Hiccup can relate. He's completely going against his school's education.]
no subject
I was probably one of the people making it harder for everybody else, actually.
I never really took school too seriously.
[It's something she regrets now, but...]
no subject
[It's something that he's been wondering for a while, what with all the changes between his time and everyone else's. Not the mention the fact that most people don't have to learn a dragon's weak point.]
no subject
Big building full of kids... stick 'em in rooms and tell 'em to sit still while grownups go on about stuff nobody cares about for six hours...
Throw in a half-hour break at one point for some crappy food.
That's school where I'm from in a nutshell.
[action?]
Well, it's a different matter entirely for Kate.
She's been quiet, keeping to herself and barely paying any attention to anything, network or no. It's only when she realized that she hadn't seen Toothless lately that she checked the network, and found Hiccup's post.
It's drawn her out at last. She's not the only one missing people.
So she knocks on the door of the room Hiccup was, until recently, sharing with Toothless about an hour after his network post--the door to her own room down the hall was left open and the smell of food wafting out.]
Hiccup?
[action!]
That said, he's grateful when he opens the door and sees the woman.]
Ziva... Hey.
[The viking's not real good with social interaction, and approaching the subject of either of their grief makes his stomach churn, so instead he elects for falling silent. He glances away, rubbing at the back of his neck.]
[action!]
I have made dinner, if you would care to join me.
[action]
Y-yeah. Sure, okay, thanks.
[Hiccup retreats back into his room for a moment, scooping Adder, the only creature now out of its pokeball, up in his arms. The pokemon isn't exactly used to physical contact--especially from humans--but his squirming dies down a bit when he catches the scent of food.]
You don't, uh, mind if I bring him along, do you?
[action]
Of course. Tali would enjoy the company, I am sure.
[Tali being the little Eevee halfway down the hall, wondering what her mom is doing. Ziva's smile grows, and she motions with her head towards her open door.]
I hope that you like pasta.
[action]
[Yep. He's been in Johto since December and still hasn't expanded his food groups too much. He's included fruits and a few vegetables, sure, but meat was the majority of this kid's diet still. Not that it showed at all.]
Smells really good though.
[The gear has been set on the writing desk in his room, while his chin in resting on the edge. He's still looking pretty rough.]
Have you ever had someone go home, Marceline?
Re: [video]
Oh... I'm sorry. That has to be pretty sucky, too.
