Fifth Flight. [video.]
[Hiccup is awoken by the sensation of a beak through his hair. He blearily sits up, staring at the Noctowl in a long moment of incomprehension before speaking.]
Laila...? Mnwhat are you doing here?
[Maybe this was a wake-up call from Ziva. The viking drags himself up, tugging the thick, fur-trimmed boots on before plodding down the hall to the woman's room. Which was empty.]
That's strange...
[He heads back to his own room to call her on the gear, but finds that that doesn't exactly work. At all. Hiccup sinks onto the bed, hand settling against Laila's cheek as she hoots low and nuzzles closer.]
...Guess I'm on my own.
[When Hiccup starts the feed up, the Noctowl is still hanging around him. Only now, her chin is resting on top of the boy's head.]
Ziva David has gone home, too. I have Laila, but I haven't been able to find the rest of her team at all... I hope they're alright.
[He takes a deep breath. Time for more stepping out of his comfort zone.]
So what's a good job for a kid who's not so great with this modern technology stuff?

[One might think that he's kidding, but by the blank look on his face, he's very clearly not.]
Well. A waiter...works at a restaurant and serves tables.
Oh, them.
[Yeah, there were a few waiters that probably didn't like him, thanks to Toothless's eating habits while he'd been there.]
What if I'm kind of known for, uh, being kind of clumsy and useless?
I woke up in Goldenrod after that weird weekend nobody can remember, which was right around when I got here. And I had...help. Ziva was kind of taking care of me while she was here.
Goldenrod, eh? You still there?
Yeah. But I was thinking of heading out, soon. I'd like to get Fly, eventually.
[But to travel, he needs money, and so here we are.]

[He likes heights and everything, but city buildings are weird.]

[Hiccup nods after a moment.]
Alright. I'll ask around there for a job tomorrow.

Mmn... So you knew her then, too?

[He takes a deep breath, then offers Tavros a tiny smile.]
Hi, I'm Hiccup. Ziva was taking care of me, sort of.
no subject
[ he smiles weakly, too. ]
Was... Ziva your parent-lusus-thing?
no subject
No, she wasn't my parent--or even from my world. But she took care of my friend when I wasn't here and he was getting used to being human.

no subject
It does, doesn't it.
So, uh, what's that...what was the word? Lusus?

[He's changed from simply inquisitive to downright interested. He had spent many days going off to look for trolls, after all.]
Is it true that you steal left socks?
no subject
No, why would you think that?
no subject

[ headtilt; yeah he can think of at least three that might ]
Generally speaking, though, it's not really a quality that most trolls would have as a thing, I guess.
this is late, i'm sorry. feel free to ignore it.
I see... I wonder why that became a myth-thing, then. You know, that some people think.
Sorry you lost another one...
[Poor guy. Heather can imagine all too clearly how she'd feel if her father and Henry were to disappear, and... well. She didn't like to think about it.]
In terms of tech-low jobs, uh... well, you don't have to know much to be able to serve people at diners and restaurants...
[Someone already suggested that, Heather...]
...Yeah.
[And then oh goodie, a distraction from being a pseudo-orphan.]
Someone else said that, but I'm guessing it's not good for business for waiters to trip and end up tossing food in people's faces. Or mysteriously set things on fire.
[It's a big problem.]
[She pauses, rubbing the back of her neck.]
Well, there's always Center jobs... I mean, they do use comp-- ... various techy things there, but I'm sure if you explained to the nurses that you're not good at that sort of thing, they'd let you work with the Pokemon more instead.
They're usually pretty nice.
[The sarcasm is pretty halfhearted.]
Working with pokemon wouldn't be so bad, I think... I check things out there after the department store, then decide which I prefer. Or which would cause less destruction.
[Quite suddenly, her expression had become alarmed.]
Oh god-- DON'T work at the Goldenrod Department store.
At least not unless you can work somewhere other than the third and fourth floor.
The supervisor there will eat you alive.
Uh... O-kay, then?
[Guess he'll be checking out the Center, first. You're not helping at all with his aversion of tall buildings, with that comment.]
She's like-- I don't know if Vikings believe in aliens, but she is one.
I worked there last year and like-- just trust me, okay?
Go for the Center.
[Pretty much every job back home involves modern tech in SOME way, and Mickey has a hard time believing it's any different here, where the technology seems even more advanced...]
And sorry to hear about your friend. ...Unless it's a good thing she's home.
[He wouldn't mind waking up back home, himself.]
[Hiccup pauses, then looks up with a small frown.]
...I don't really know what it's like for her back home. When her friends went home, she was really worried about one of them.
[Ziva hadn't been one to really share on the subject.]
Re: [video]
[Not entirely sure what to say to that.]
I'm... sure she's fine?
[Not at all awkward.]
...She can handle herself.
[ZIVA WAS TOUGH ENOUGH TO BE A VIKING, OKAY.]
Re: [video]
[Stop talking Mickey, this kind of thing does not end well for you.]
...So when are you from? If you don't mind my asking.
[Because any subject is better than the current one, at this point.]
The past, I guess. That's what people tell me.
[Wow, Hiccup. So helpful.]
...I'm a viking.
Re: [video]
[Well, probably. He wouldn't be TOO surprised if there was a Planet Of The Vikings somewhere.]
...or the rest of us are from the future. Dunno 'when' this place is, relative to home...
...Or why this place needs so many people with different backgrounds.
Re: [video]
...You think there's something actually controlling this?
[Hiccup gives Mickey a quizzical look before shrugging.]
A lot of people seem to think so. I don't see why not.
Re: [video]
[Science-stuff controlled by slightly psychotic clockwork robots.]
I dunno, what would anyone get out of this?
adfghkl, i'm sorry this is late, ignore if you want.
Nothing I could think of... But maybe it's entertaining to see us all run around confused?
