[Borrowing Carmen's Slugma to hatch the eggs faster had seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. Then, he reasoned, he shouldn't have to lug any of them around by the time they all left the city to go off exploring again. Genius!

Not so much.

See, Hiccup hadn't exactly realized just how soon Ringo would make the little bundles of joy kick off their shells to greet the sunshine, and the resulting five new babies is proving to be a little much for this unsuspecting noodle-viking.]

Kite, please come down from th-- Night Fury, no!

[A tiny purple feline makes a leap, sights set on the Starly perched high on a shelf. It seems his stringy kitten limbs aren't quite enough for this task, though, and the crash not only startles the bird off, but sends several items in every direction.

The mess on the floor suggests this isn't the first time it's happened.

Hiccup moves to set down the brown and white bundle he'd been cradling so he can sort out this new altercation, and finds that he instantly regrets it. The Cubone, previously somehow able to sleep through the wreckage, stirs with a wail shrill enough to drown out all his other concerns.]

No, Val, it's okay! I'm right here, see? Oh man, this was my greatest idea yet. Wow. [Once again, the Cubone is scooped up, and Hiccup takes a headcount over her crying to make sure the hyperactive hatchlings haven't knocked themselves out.] Okay, here's Val, Laila's got Kite, Night Fury's there, Key's eating Dinkfin's food, oh joy. Where's--

[And then his eyes land on the 'gear.]

Atom, what are you doing? Get out of--

[The video abruptly cuts off to be replaced by a text to the network.]

[...Hiccup's going to be a little tied up, so feel free to talk to the newborn Rotom, Atom--er, Eve--in the meantime!]

[The nice thing about having a Porygon who continually monitors the network is that occasionally, amid the usual bits and bytes of earned badges and evolutions and friendly requests, there will come a post like this one — one that speaks of a hero in desperate need of rescue, be it from mutated trash or hideous mutations or simply an egregious miscalculation of how difficult it is to watch five newborn hatchlings at once.

And the nice thing about having this Porygon in particular on vigil is that Carmen has already long since trained her roster how to respond independent of her in times of crisis.

One insistently beeped and booped alarm later, a tiny cluster of Pokemon deploys in neat formation, bounding rapidly down the hall toward the chaos of Hiccup's room: an Ivysaur, a Liepard, a Zorua, and a Spinarak (hitching a ride on the Liepard's back) all come running, and descend as one into the fray.

Macavity the Liepard, recognizing her own progeny, immediately trots over to snatch up the Purrloin by the scruff of its neck; Agent Cooper the Spinarak begins his climb up the wall toward the relocated Starly and Laila to provide assistance and support, as well as to coordinate the team movements from above. Sly the Zorua opts to take a shot at distracting the Very Hungry Totodile with a Totodile illusion of his own, and Ivy the Ivysaur, ever helpful, extends two long vines and waves them at Hiccup, gesturing pointedly at the baby Cubone before making a rocking motion.

HELLO, HICCUP, THE CAVALRY IS HERE. Enjoy?

Meanwhile, Zack will be investigating the newcomer to the network, considering his promise to befriend the Rotom from a few days ago.]

[His first instinct at seeing so many pokemon piling into his already-trashed room is to feel panicked. More pokemon = more destruction.

But then he recognizes this new squad as belonging to Carmen, and the relief nearly topples him over.] Oh, thank the gods. [He watches them move with precision, nearly forgetting about Val in his arms until the Ivysaur manages to grab his focus and remind him. As he copies the motion and goes back to surveying the lessening chaos, he can't help but wonder just how badly he owes Thief Mom.

Night Fury squirms, a plaintive BUT MOOOOOOM clear in his mewling, Kite investigates this strange six-legged thing crawling towards him (which allows the Noctowl to preen and calm him further), and Key considers the other Totodile a moment before popping a chunk of food into her mouth and offering another piece to Sly. Hey, no one can say she doesn't have manners.

Eve, on the other hand, is having far too much fun possessing the 'gear. It floats above Hiccup's head, occasionally letting off a spark or a giggle, oblivious to the fact that more pokemon even arrived. People sure said strange things!]

[With a vaguely exasperated look, Ivy chatters her disapproval and then snakes her vines around the Cubone in his arms, already beginning to sway back and forth to the lulling beat of the Ancient Lullaby of the Bulbasaur™. Agent Cooper, meanwhile, is quietly contemplating the heroic sacrifice he is making in approaching not one but two looming birds, one of which happens to be an EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE OWL oh god oh god, but desperate times call for desperate measures and he knows his job on this one, despite his mounting terror at OH GOD BIRDS.

Macavity, accepting no nonsense from her youngster, wastes no time in pinning him to the ground with a paw across his back and proceeds to give him a thorough (and possibly embarrassing) grooming — no son of hers will be going around looking anything but flawless, thank you — and Sly the now-Totodile accepts the piece of food and holds it a moment before quite deliberately putting it back in the bowl. No, no, these are not for him.

And while all this is going on, Zack has just made contact. Oh, boy!]

Wh-- [Oh. Oh, you are taking away his little baby girl.

(And then Hiccup felt even more inadequate as a father, sob.)

Now that he wasn't challenged with the task of calming down the sobbing Valhallarama, Hiccup felt relatively less guilty in falling back into a sitting position on the edge of his bed and observing everything. Carmen really did have them all well-trained... But man, what if she was disappointed in him? Unable to handle the eggs he'd insisted on buying.

'DON'T WORRY, I CAN DO IT' had resulted in complete havoc. Yay.

Laila was in a much better mood, having at least gotten her charge somewhat under control. In what she means as an appreciate hoot, she thanks Agent Cooper (the Spinarak, not the human) for distracting Kite from the fact that there now wasn't just one, but two cats. Kite, not quite as helpful or well-meaning as the large owl, simply stares at the spider. Not blinking.

If only Night Fury could be so still. No, he is indeed embarrassed by his mother's course of action, and the mews turn into indignant yowls as he tries to claw the carpet. Freedom was so close, and yet so far away for the kitten. He's making such a racket that it manages to distract Key for a second or two. Unfortunately, those are the seconds Sly happens to be a Very Good "Totodile", and so his act of teaching goes unnoticed. Om nom nom, man food sure is good. Did you enjoy your piece, fellow bitty crocodile?]

[Sadly, much like her namesake, Ivy does not tend to focus on projected paternal inadequacies so much as she does simply taking stock of problems and proceeding to get shit done concerning them, so her perception of Hiccup's retreat is less "wow I am a massive parental failure" and more "oh thank god I can finally sit down"; as such, she's content to turn her attention to rocking and singing to the sobbing Cubone, hoping that the repetitive swaying motion will compensate for the fact that she is not, in fact, Val's daddy.

Agent Cooper, meanwhile, has gone perfectly still in that way that only a spider can do, because OHGOD OWL HOOTING and OHGOD BIRD STARING and OHGOD OHGOD OHGOD what is his tiny arachnid life right now.

Further off to the side, Macavity persists in her charge of being a Good Mom (for a given value of Good Mom, anyway) and keeps her youngster pinned until he is well and truly cleaned, and Sly just sort of shakes his crocodilic head in exasperation, because he is far too cool for this job of being a Good Role Model, man.]

[Had Valhallarama not been one inclined towards sleeping to begin with, it's quite possible that Ivy's efforts would have been met with continued wails for several more minutes. She has to admit, though, that even if the vines cradling her aren't as comforting as Hiccup's (honestly, twig-like) arms, the Ivysaur was pretty good at this rocking and singing business. So while not completely content, she does quiet to whimpers.

As the Starly continues to stare, Laila questions as to what is wrong, good sir, Night Fury slinks off to sulk under the bed because mom u r ruining his street cred here, and Key shrugs and continues to chow down, the Rotom makes the 'gear spin in excitement. This new 'friend' agreed! She did, in fact, do a good job.]
