[Among the background bustle--familiar sounds for anyone who's set foot in a Pokemon Center--there's a small whine from an Eevee, almost like a prompt for Hiccup to speak. After another second or so, he does.]

Uh... Has anyone ever, uhmm. [There's another pause. How should he put this...] Lost...half their pokemon? [He clears his throat before continuing, quicker this time like an excuse.] I still have all their pokeballs, and those are registered to all of them still, according to the people at the Center. But I can't find them anywhere...

[Hiccup sighs, and there's a subtle clunk as he moves his hand to the 'gear to shut it off. Before he does, though, there's one last mumble.]

I can't believe this is happening again...

You...lost half your Pokemon?

[HALF YOUR POKEMON, Hiccup?]

I'm not sure whether to be aghast or impressed.

I didn't do it on purpose. [Sigh.] I came back to my room at the inn and they were just gone.

How odd. Did anyone see them leave? Perhaps they had some pressing business to attend to?

[Yeah, he's reaching, but whatever, this is weird.]

...What kind of business do twenty pokemon have to attend to at once?

I have sixteen Eeveelutions. Call me biased; I'm accustomed to the prospect of large groups of them doing everything en masse.

[Hiccup's less willing to accept this.]

I could see some of them going off together, but... Not all of them are close to each other. It seems almost random, to me.

And I assume nothing happened recently that might've, ah, set them off on this particular course of action, either.

For what it's worth, this is the first I've heard of such a thing, though I don't know if that comes as much consolation.

Not that I can think of... I mean, I've been spending time away from the inn, I guess. But would that really be enough?

[Between trying to keep Carmen's spirits up, keeping himself from fawning over Clair, working at the Center, and settling a dragon feud... Things had been busy, for Hiccup.]

...You know, it's really not.

[No really, Yagyuu, why.]

[Because he exists to be an asshole, that's why.]

Sometimes they're inclined to odd notions. When Lady once thought I was ignoring her, she opted to saddle me with an entire brood of eggs in revenge. As I said, I've never heard of a Pokemon running away, but I suppose I wouldn't put it past one.

I still can't believe it...

[Despite his words, though, he sounds defeated. He'd already accepted the possibility before asking the network, after all.]

I just wish they'd tried to get my attention some other way.

Have you decided on a course of action to take from here, then? Will you go after them? Or simply let them go?

[WILL THOU BE A MAN OR A NOODLE?]

[Hiccup sighs.]

I'll try to find them. Maybe see if my friends can help me--but if they don't want to be found, there isn't much I can do about that.

[Mostly noodle.]

If it's of any help, I'll keep an eye out for any reports of, ah, large clusters of wayward Pokemon fitting the description of the ones you lost. Unlikely though it might be that they get as far as another city, an extra set of eyes couldn't hurt. And in any case, Pokemon news in general frequently passes amongst the nurses anyway. If I hear something, I'll make certain to pass it on.

There should be a Staraptor, a Feraligatr, a Lapras, an Aerodactyl, a Charmander, a Carracosta, a Blitzle, a Kabuto, a Larvitar, a Treecko-- [big breath.] --an Igglybuff, a Vespiquen, an Ampharos, and a Flaaffy.

[Y-yeah, he's...not sure how some of those ~~LAPRAS?~~ actually got away unnoticed.]

All should register me as their original trainer, I think...
