[Somehow, he prefers it this way. A chance connection. Getting to know those who'd been familiar with Ziva was always welcomed by the viking, especially since they seemed few and far between, but this was the kind of thing that made Hiccup in awe of the world. His life seemed to be spun by fate, and this reunion was no different.]

I'm not surprised. Vicky always seemed like the responsible type. She wouldn't have let someone down.

[Giving her a final scratch behind the ears, Hiccup gets back on his feet.]

Glad she ended up with a good trainer, though.

[Oh, hello, Laila. Don't mind Carmen casting a mildly watchful eye on her; she's sort of gotten in the habit of keeping track of potentially Really Large Birds in her general vicinity, thanks to Coop's phobia, and while he's not anywhere around now, she'll certainly be ready if an intervention did become necessary.

Still, she'll reach out her hand in the same way that Hiccup did, a silent hello to this new Pokemon in their midst. Vicky, on the other hand, recognizes Laila at once (naturally), and her tail begins to wag.]

Responsible is an excellent word for her. So is reliable, and dependable.

However, at the moment, a tip of the hat will work just as well, and Hiccup's enthusiasm is fairly infectious, so.]

He's a good flier; he handled most of the flight in from Olivine on his own. [Because fuck yeah Dragon Express.] He and Skye — my Salamence — are the only two dragons proper, but we've recently hatched a dinosaur, too. Her name is Donna.

[And let's be honest here. Carmen is to dinosaurs what Hiccup is to dragons. This is exciting news.]

[Hiccup...remembers someone telling him about dinosaurs a really long time ago. Creatures that were around before everything else... It was fascinating, especially since he'd been told that they may have roamed a different Earth than he had come from, and Carmen certainly seemed happy about it.

...Dragons were still better.]

I've heard of them! Giant lizards, right? [The lesson had been short and not particularly detailed.] I'd like to hear more about them, sometime.

That's right. Though it's hard to say which creatures are really the descendants of the dinosaurs — for a long time, people assumed that they were most closely related to reptiles, but some scientists are postulating that they might be the ancestors of birds, instead.

[LEARNING EXPERIENCE. Meanwhile, the Baron is submitting pleasantly to this interest and examination, being the good-natured Dragonite that he is.]

You're more interested in the dragons, though, aren't you? This one was in the Foster Home before I adopted him, and I know he wasn't the only dragon they were taking care of. If you're looking to adopt, you might want to keep them in mind.

It's believed that some dinosaurs could fly — pterosaurs, for example, whose name comes from the Greek term "winged lizard". That's the sort Donna most closely resembles. Though I doubt they did it the way the Salamence does here; I don't think our dinosaurs were quite so...inspired.
